Title: Harriet Tubman
She was a slave that was born in Maryland in 1820. She did not get to go to school like we do. When she was 6 years old she had to work hard with her Dad on the farm. In 1844 she ran away to Pennsylvania. It was a long hard trip. She walked through rivers and swamps and slept in the woods. Pennsylvania was a free state. Almost all the northern states of America were free states. The southern states were slave states. Thank God for Harriet Tubman for saving about 300 slaves through the Underground Railroad. The Underground Railroad was not a train. It was a way for slaves to become free. It was a risky thing to do back then.
