Title: The Kept

The Kept, a novel by James Scott was about a boy in the 1890's who watches his family get shot while he hides in the barn, only to survive and have to burn his family and home due to the hard upstate New York winter conditions. When his mother returns, in fear from his hiding place he shoots her with pellets almost killing her. The story is dark, telling the tale of them seeking revenge for their family members with a few twists along the way. Was a hard book to read, telling a bleak hard tale, not a book for light summer reading.
